Unexpected discoveries

Even after more than 30 years of travelling across Portugal; and living here for almost 3 years, there are still delightful surprises waiting to be discovered. On one of Fin's bike rides, he stumbled upon the charming old town of Ferragudo, and we decided to take a drive to explore it a little further.

Nestled along the sun-soaked Algarve coast, Ferragudo is a quaint fishing village that seems to have paused in time. Its narrow cobblestone streets wind through whitewashed buildings adorned with colourful bougainvillea, creating a postcard-perfect scene at every turn.

Not only are the little streets of Ferragudo authentic and charming, but there is also the São João do Arade Castle, standing proudly amidst the village, offers breathtaking views of the sea and cliffs.

We still find it amazing that there is so much to discover in Portugal after all these years, despite our wanderlust always taking us to many places that are off the beaten track. Ferragudo was a lovely surprise, and we will return to explore it further....especially the intriguing castle!
