When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, it affected people in so many different ways. Some sadly lost loved ones, or were ill themselves. Others made decisions about their careers - feeling they needed a better work/life balance. Plenty of people are now seeking to make a move out of big cities - craving a bit more outside space having endured lockdowns in cramped apartments. For Team Castaway; we decided it was time to not only move out of a big city, but to move out of the UK! Over the past few years, we have been splitting our time between Britain and Portugal, but our hearts lie with the latter.
In our case; this life-changing decision was not based on events over the past 12 months; but instead a desire that we’ve harboured for over a decade. We wanted to create a more enjoyable life doing something we’re passionate about, while living in a country we truly love. Lockdown gave us so much time to think about what we wanted out of life. We're sure everyone reading this has changed something in their routine; no matter how small or insignificant it might be. Maybe you’re walking more. Perhaps you're more aware of nature than you were before. We think every one of us also realises how much we took for granted; and the importance of family and friends.
During the first lockdown back in March 2020; work came to a standstill for us for a while; providing us with plenty of time to think about our lifestyle, and our decision to move to Portugal. We started to question why we were waiting, and what was holding us back. To be honest, looking back now the only thing that was stopping us…..was us! We have both had successful careers in the UK; and to leave those was a big step to take. However if we don’t make that leap….how would we ever get the life we truly want? No one else was going to make the move for us, so here we are - leaping like frogs; and hoping to land on a gorgeous lily pad on which to float through life!
We’re so excited about what lies ahead, and we hope that you’ll have fun following our journey. It began with a temporary move to Scotland, before we head South - more on the Scottish leg of the adventure to come on the blog in the coming days. We appreciate everyone’s support, and interest in what we do, so thanks for hopping on for the ride! We'd also love you to follow us on Instagram Twitter and Facebook - and please let us know if you've made any life-changing decisions of your own, we'd be very interested to hear about your experiences
