Christmas means different things to different people. If you have children, most people feel it is all about them. For others, it is just about spending time with family and friends. For others, it is simply a good time to rest and eat lots of good food and drink!
We are approaching our second Christmas in Portugal, and we can't quite believe it has come around so quickly. Each country has its own traditions when it comes to Christmas, and in Portugal we feel it is much less commercialised - which is lovely! So what can we teach you about the festive season in this country?
Feliz Natal is Merry Christmas in Portuguese! We still have Father Christimas out here - but he is called Pai Natal, and drops his presents on Christmas Eve which is the main day of celebration, rather than Christmas day. By the 26th of December, it is back to normal....Boxing day does not exist in Portugal.
With so many people tightening the purse strings this year, remember it is all about who you spend it with, and not how many presents are under the tree. Here at Castaway Portugal, we would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas. We hope you are able to take time to relax and enjoy it!
