One of the best things about living in Portugal is the amount of time we get to spend outdoors. That time surrounded by nature, being out and about in the fresh air is one of the reasons we wanted to move to the Algarve. Even in the Winter months, we can be out making the most of the mild climate.
We love walking along lovely sandy beaches - it is one of the most beautiful things about living near the sea - but with so many stunning cliff top hikes in the area where we live, that is actually one of our favourite things to do at the weekend.
The coastline in Portugal has a total length of 835km, and approximately half of that is dominated by sea cliffs. These walks give you incredible panoramas over the ocean and the beaches below - some that you might never be able to reach, unless you have a boat!
Most of the trails are relatively easy, but there are some challenging ones when you want to test your fitness and enjoy the views at the same time. As they are almost always on dirt or gravel trails, it's still important to wear good walking shoes. We don't bother going when the weather is rainy, because with over 300 days of sunshine - why would you?!
At this time of year, the walks are very quiet, and you are always rewarded with stunning views. It's a perfect way to get a bit of exercise, enjoy the scenery and feel lucky to live in such a beautiful place!
