Winter rides Portuguese style

This time last year, I was working in the UK and commuting to the office. That required a lot of cycling kit....a winter jacket; tights; gloves, a base layer etc. If you ride in the UK you'll know where I'm going with this. Roll on 12 months, and it's a very different story!

While cooling down a touch, the weather in the Algarve so far this Winter has been extraordinary. Temperatures have still been in the 20s and most days it is wall to wall blue sky....not a pair of gloves in sight!

Given our plans for Castaway Portugal in 2022 I'm conditioning myself for what lies ahead, and that means getting out on the bike 5 days a week - hardly a hardship when the scenery is as good as it is out here. That mixed with the lack of traffic on the roads makes for an idyllic cycling experience.

Of course it wouldn't be a Portuguese ride without the obligatory cup of coffee along the way, and the odd cake....purely for fuel and not enjoyment of course! I can't wait to share the routes I've found with keen cyclists as Castaway develops, but in the meantime, I'll keep pedalling and exploring.
