Weather warning waves

The Algarve's pristine beaches, clear waters, and sun-soaked surfers are iconic. However, even in this paradise, nature occasionally asserts its power. At the weekend, a rare red weather warning struck our region, causing incredible waves up to 14 meters along the west coast at some of our favourite beaches such as Castelejo and Cordoama.

These beaches are known for their fantastic surfing conditions, but this day was different. We took a drive out especially to see how strong the waves were and it was incredible! The powerful waves made it too dangerous for surfers to ride the waves, but so many people had driven to the West coast to see the surf.

The absence of surfers was unusual, but this was a reminder that even in our piece of Portuguese paradise, nature can be unpredictable and unforgiving.

As the red weather warning passed and the waves calmed, surfers will this week return to the water. The Algarve offers not just sunny days and perfect waves but also a reminder of the ocean's supremacy and the importance of safety. Nature is awe-inspiring, but it also demands our respect, and this weekend was a reminder of that!
