Volta ao Algarve - another classic race!

The 49th Edition of the Volta ao Algarve certainly didn’t disappoint! During the five stages that covered five days; 795km, and 14,600 metres of climbing we had a bit of everything thrown in. It will go down as another classic race, and with the final result being in the balance right up to the last day it made for an exciting week of racing.

With some spectacular racing to match the stunning scenery it was another roaring success, and looks like it will be one to watch on the Professional scene. The stature of the race grows each year, and it's becoming a real favourite with the professional peloton. It has everything that an early season race could want - the weather; the scenery; some testing roads, and the warmth and enthusiasm from the general public.

The overall winner was Daniel Martinez from the famous Inos team (a testimony to the prestige of this race) and the runner up was his team mate Filippo Ganna - both World Class riders. A big shout out must however go to the young Scot Oscar Onley who at the tender age of 20 not only finished 12th overall, but also won the Young Jersey award - clearly a rider to watch in the future.

So overall another fabulous week in the saddle for the riders. The Volta is another great excuse to visit the Algarve early in the year and take in the sights and sounds of a world class sporting event, alongside everything the country has to offer. Força Portugal!
