The storms have passed

Portugal has been in a long cycle of drought, so the prospect of several days of consecutive rain last week was welcomed by everyone! We never thought we'd say that after years of enduring the rain in Manchester, but it is much needed over here.

We had two storms hit in quick succession - storm Armand, and then storm Beatrice. The latter brought unbelievable waves and we couldn't resist a trip to the beach to see them.

We went to Praia da Zavial, which is normally relatively calm but the waves were huge - not even the surfers were brave enough to tackle these giants! After that, we decided to drive to Sagres to take a look at the waves hitting the cliffs off the most Westerly point of mainland Europe. That was equally spectacular - and to be honest, these photos do not capture just how dramatic it was.

We love all the seasons out here, and with most storms come choppy seas. Now, in the coming weeks, we are set to return to what many call an "Indian summer", so the blue skies will be back - normal service resumes!
