Spring has sprung!

It is safe to say that we are officially through the winter season, and Spring has definitely sprung here in Portugal. It was a wetter and colder winter than normal, and we had very unusual lows of 5 degrees, but thankfully that is behind us now. This week, we have had temperatures of 26 degrees - bliss! Not only is it officially Spring, but the clocks have also changed.

Not everyone realises this, but Portugal is in the same time zone as the UK - even some airline cabin crew I've flown with have wrongly announced a time difference on arrival in Portugal and I have corrected them!

A little history lesson for you - on March 16th 1940, the clocks in Spain jumped from 23:00h to 00:00h to display the same time as Nazi Germany, and other Nazi-occupied countries such as France and the Netherlands. That explains why Portugal is in a different time zone to its Spanish neighbour, and aligned with the UK clock changes!

We believe Spring is one of the best seasons to spend in Portugal - with a lack of holiday makers and plenty of sunny days. It is the perfect time to admire the blossom and flowering plants and on average in March the temperatures are around 21 degrees, dropping to 9 at night, so it is really very pleasant. As most people do, we get excited when the longer nights return and the heat begins to build, and just love getting outdoors and enjoying the Spring days!
