Spring Blossom

We have said many times on our blog how beautiful the Portuguese Spring is with the wild flowers,and the colourful blossom. However one thing we will never be able to get across in writing is the incredible smell of the plants and trees when they are in bloom.

First, it is the almond trees that signal Spring is on the way with their delicate white blossom. Then one tree after the other follows in their footsteps!

Around March, you get an overwhelming but beautiful smell from the orange blossom. These little white flowers are so pungent it actually feels like it hurts your nose when you are cycling near or driving past a field of orange trees!

It is not just the orange trees that produce a wonderful aroma. So many plants and flowers spring into life it can be a complete assault on the senses….but a wonderful one!
