One of the things you have to think about when you move to a new country is that you are making the decision to leave family and friends behind. It isn't a straightforward decision, but it was a slightly easier transition for us as we had become accustomed to living in Manchester where we were over three hours from family anyway.

As we settled into Portuguese life, we realised one thing....we were now very popular. Family and friends suddenly started deciding that they would like to see us - and combine their visit with a trip to the sunshine of course!

The great thing about that is that we don't have to return the the UK all the time to catch up with our buddies or relatives. They are more than happy to book trips to the Algarve and the good thing for us is that it means we can also enjoy the lovely sunny summer months with friends out here.

We think we have gained a new perspective on our lives now that we live and work abroad, especially when you have a reminder of what home is like. At the moment we think the UK is in a bit of a mess, and that was one of the many reasons we decided to move. We do not miss that side of things one bit, and it is good to be reminded of why we decided to embark on a new adventure when friends tell us what life is like back home!

The other lovely thing we are looking forward to in the next few months is showing our friends and family around our new country. We may only have been living in Portugal for less than a year, but we are still proud of our little accomplishments in life and work so far, and it is great to share that with friends and family.

We can't wait to make new memories with our loved ones when they visit, and we are sure they will appreciate us taking time to introduce them to our new life. We are already starting to realise just how much we love our new country of residence, and as well as sharing that with our old buddiess, we are also so grateful to be making new friends as well.
