First festive season living in Portugal

This time last year, we were working our bottoms off in the UK. We were cold, and a bit depressed with the dark nights and rubbish weather. Thoughts of living out here in the Algarve were in the back of our minds, but still felt like a long way off. While we had already made the decision that we were going to move, we hadn't yet put our house on the market and there still seemed like so much to do before our dream came true.

Fast forward 12 months, and we couldn't be happier with our decision and the way things are going out here. We feel like we have fitted into the more relaxed pace of life perfectly, and genuinely have to pinch ourselves everyday that we are lucky enough and brave enough to have made this happen.

Christmas in Portugal isn't as commercialised as it is in the UK. Instead they focus on the important things...it's all about family, and spending time with those you love. After what we've all been through over the last couple of years, we should all have come to recognise that's all that matters right?

Don't get me wrong, Santa has been through the streets; the lights have been turned on, and everywhere looks beautiful. Perhaps it's time we all took a step back, made the most of being able to be together and enjoy good food and drink. That's what we'll be doing this Christmas, and we hope you all have a very good one! Merry Christmas from Team Castaway xx
