.....but we just didn't realise how much we had until we tried to fit it all into boxes! We read a survey that revealed 40% of home owners rank moving house as the most stressful event they've had to overcome - even more than getting divorced; having a baby and starting a new job. Well the good news is that we're still together after the big move....but we agree it is stressful no matter how much you plan before the event!

Suddenly we started suffering from sleep deprivation - why is it that when you have a lot going on in your life, bed becomes a magical place where you suddenly remember everything you have to do?! We had lived in the North West of England for 20 years, and had accumulated lots of lovely stuff on our travels during that time. We love picking up bits and bobs from far flung places to remind us of wonderful trips we've had - but it's very stressful and time consuming having to bubble wrap and pack them all up!

If you're thinking of moving, the biggest tips we can give (and this is not an ad!) are 1. plan ahead - you can never start packing too early and 2. use a recommended removal firm. That one sounds easy but there are a lot of horror stories out there! We couldn't fault the Edinburgh firm we used for their professionalism and the way the treated our belongings as if they were their own - they went above and beyond to deliver to three addresses for us, and everything arrived in one piece!

We actually had a very funny moment when we were on the M6 motorway on the drive to Scotland when we passed the removal wagon waving like idiots - overtaking your worldly possessions is a very odd experience! Crossing the border was also a strange one - we're used to heading North for a few nights, but this time we would never be heading back to our house in Manchester.

There was a little bit of sadness leaving our home where we had so many lovely memories. It was hard to leave the lovely garden where we enjoyed listening to the crazy birds; watching the foxes and sipping the odd G&T (!) but the overall feeling was excitement about what lies ahead. Bring it on - and if we ever see bubble wrap and cardboard boxes again it will be far too soon!
