Bowled over by Monsanto boulders!

When we first decided to go to Monsanto, we did what everyone probably does when they book a trip to a new destination, we searched images online. However we didn't expect what we found!

The first pictures that come up are of these odd, but achingly cute little houses that are built around boulders.

Everywhere you look you see a little door pop up beside a giant rock that looks as though it's squeezing the house at its side!

These homes are built under, on and between huge granite boulders weighing up to 200 tonnes that are strewn around the mountain.

Inside, the rocks serve as roofs and walls for the residents of this stunning village, and some have been converted into little guest houses that you can rent and experience what it's like living as the locals have done for centuries.

Locals say 'you never know in Monsanto if the house is born of the rock, or if the rock is born from the house'.

Whatever the answer is, staying in one of these houses for a night is an experience not to be missed!
