While Mandy holds the fort in Portugal, I am in the UK for a few days to see family and friends before Christmas. It is always nice to be back in Edinburgh, but this trip has also provided me with a big reality check!
In terms of weather, the timing of my trip has been a little unfortunate. My arrival has coincided with the Scottish temperatures plummeting to around 3 degrees, and nightly temperatures well below zero.
While it is not much of a surprise that it is cold in Scotland in December - it is a shock to discover just how much I have acclimatised to the weather in Portugal. Before I left, Mandy and I were discussing the 'cold weather' - but 16 degrees will now feel positively balmy having experienced a little dose of reality!
We always thought we would not become 'those people' who say it's cold in Portugal in the winter - but it seems we are starting to do just that! My return to the sunny Algarve will be a welcome relief from the chilly weather, and perhaps I'll now think twice about saying how cold it is. As someone once said - sometimes we need that reality check to realise the truth!
