Easter in Portugal is a mix of deep-rooted tradition, lively celebrations, and, let’s be honest, a whole lot of delicious food. It’s like Christmas, but with better weather and more chocolate! The week kicks off with solemn processions through the streets, candles in hand, and hymns filling the air. It’s all very moving—and a great excuse to stroll through town taking in the atmosphere.

Then comes the feast! Easter in Portugal is all about gathering with family and indulging in classic dishes like roasted lamb and folar, a sweet or savoury bread that’s basically Portugal’s way of saying, “Why have one egg when you can bake it right into the loaf?” And don’t even get me started on the desserts. Almond pastries and chocolate eggs seem to multiply faster than bunnies.

Just be sure to pace yourself with the food—or you might end up needing a procession of your own to walk it all off. If you’re looking for a holiday at this time of the year with culture, amazing food and sunshine therapy, Easter in Portugal is your answer! Happy Easter everyone!
